Starting Fresh
Hello.
It's been a while... Two years in fact, nearly to the month. So
much has happened, many of you out there have probably moved on. And the medium
has changed so much. Does anyone really bother reading blogs anymore?
In any case, I thought I'd give it another go. Things have indeed
changed, and I suddenly find myself with a lot of time on my hands... But I
forget myself: I should probably start by (re-) introducing myself.
My name is Dahlia. I am a chef. I worked in restaurants for about
thirteen years, then I spent nearly five years teaching cooking classes to the
general public in London. Going from behind the scenes to being front and centre was
daunting, and I must admit that the first few months of teaching were some of
the most stressful work experience I ever lived through. But it was so
gratifying, and it reminded me why I started this blog in the first place.
Nine years ago, I took the tentative first steps of writing a blog
about seasonal eating, with a penchant on a sustainable way of life. At its
height, I probably had only about thirty readers, but I truly enjoyed writing
this blog. This little piece of my mind is probably the reason why I had so
much fun teaching cookery classes for over four years. Restaurant work is not
particularly conversational, and what words are exchanged in a kitchen rarely
amount to much, The Quest allowed me to delve into a monologue on food and the
environment. And I occasionally threw in a cooking lesson or two.
As time moved forward, it became increasingly more difficult to find time to create, test and write recipes. Unfortunately, it meant that the blog got left on the wayside. I still kept jotting down notes, even writing up drafts in the hopes that I'd get enough daylight to shoot a few pictures. But life gets in the way sometimes...
That's how it goes.
Who knows? Maybe this time, it will stick. I hope you come along for the ride!
Bon app'!
